Q: Can you tell us a little about your background and how your journey in fashion began?
A: I grew up in San Giorgio del Sannio, in the province of Benevento, with an innate passion for fashion. It was always a burning flame within me. Although I started out self-taught, I eventually pursued various academic paths to deepen my understanding of fashion and design. My experiences working with iconic designers like Gianfranco Ferrè and Alviero Martini really shaped my perspective on elegance and creativity.
Q: You opened your own atelier, Nella Luongo Couture Boutique, during the pandemic. What inspired you to take that leap during such a challenging time?
A: The pandemic was a turning point. It gave me the time to reflect and the push I needed to take my dream and make it tangible. I wanted to create a space where I could blend classic craftsmanship with modern elegance and really focus on pieces that spoke to the essence of a woman. The goal was always to convey beauty and originality through meticulous fabric selection, colors, and timeless style.
Q: Your “Reborn” collection has been quite the talk in the fashion world. What was the inspiration behind it?
A: The “Reborn” collection is very close to my heart. It’s inspired by the narrative of past, present, and future—a story of resilience and beauty. I used natural fabrics like linen and integrated handmade lace and embroidery. One standout piece is a tablecloth that I transformed into a skirt, with napkins that form a bodice. It’s about giving new life to materials and embracing eco-sustainability. As I often say, “Fashion is a continuous research. It’s a historical return that is renewed without pause, exciting and inspiring everyone even before they wear a dress.”
Q: Sustainability is clearly an important theme for you. How do you incorporate this into your work?
A: Absolutely. Sustainability is not just a trend; it’s an obligation we have as creators. I wanted to raise awareness and encourage support for eco-conscious fashion through my designs. By reusing vintage materials and bringing them into the contemporary world, I aim to preserve the craftsmanship and reduce waste. Every piece is carefully thought out to tell a story that honors the past while innovating for the future.
Q: After the success of “Reborn,” you presented your “Gold Era” collection at Sanremo Fashion Week 2024. What was the inspiration behind that collection?
A: The “Gold Era” collection was born from my personal challenges and victories. It represents an elegant, confident woman who faces life’s surprises with grace and poise. I used fabrics like silk and detailed the garments with lace and fringe to highlight a balance of strength and femininity. In my mind, “The woman I see in my designs is strong, refined, and unafraid to face the unexpected.”
Q: Your collections have received a lot of attention from major media outlets. What do you think resonates most with audiences?
A: I think it’s the storytelling embedded in every piece. Fashion, for me, is more than just making clothes—it’s creating a dialogue between the past and present. When people see my work, I want them to feel the history, the craftsmanship, and the passion behind it. It’s about connecting on a deeper level. As I say, “True fashion tells a story that connects people, past and present.”
Q: What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects or goals?
A: I’m always exploring new ideas and techniques to keep pushing boundaries. My focus is on further integrating sustainable practices while expanding my boutique’s offerings. I’m also planning collaborations that will bring even more innovation to my designs. The journey continues, and I’m excited to see where it leads.
Q: Thank you for sharing your story. Your passion and dedication to fashion are truly inspiring.
A: Thank you! It’s been a pleasure to share my journey. Fashion is, and always will be, a source of joy and expression for me.
