Veteran performer and instructor shares Caribbean-informed training while evaluating competitions and leading workshops
Los Angeles, CA — November 5, 2026 — CJ Jackson’s nearly 20 years in dance have produced a dual legacy as both a working performer and a committed educator. Now based in Los Angeles after relocating from Toronto, he continues to teach students of various ages and skill levels, judge dance competitions, and run performance-focused workshops that emphasize technical growth and cultural awareness.
Career Milestones That Shape His Teaching
Jackson began training at age 12 in competitive studios in Toronto and later graduated from the Commercial Dance Studies program at George Brown College. Over nearly two decades he has accumulated competition success through Street Dance Canada, Star Beat, On The Floor, Dance Starz, and the Nuvo Dance Convention, along with a USA International Visa Program scholarship. He has also taken lead dance and choreography roles in commercials and artist projects, including his work with Megan Soo on “Michigesso.” These experiences inform the standards he brings into the classroom and the competition floor.
As an educator, he teaches students across age groups and skill levels, introducing all-style technique alongside dancehall drawn from his Jamaican heritage. He has judged dance competitions, evaluating both technical execution and creative expression. This dual role—performing at a professional level while assessing and training others—allows him to translate industry realities into practical instruction.

Workshops, Judging, and Next-Generation Impact
Jackson is currently running a tour performance dance workshop in collaboration with Megan Soo. The classes take place in Los Angeles, across the United States, New Delhi, India, and the Caribbean, giving participants direct exposure to professional rehearsal and stage processes. By combining teaching with judging and live performance work, he maintains a continuous connection between education and the industry.
“Teaching is part of how I stay connected to the work,” Jackson explains. “Judging competitions and leading workshops lets me pass on what I’ve learned while watching the next generation develop their own voices. After 18-plus years, I still see education as one of the most lasting ways to contribute.”

Inspiring Through Experience
With more than 18 years of professional milestones behind him, Jackson continues to impact the dance community as both a working artist and an educator. His willingness to judge competitions, teach across skill levels, and lead collaborative workshops positions him as a resource for dancers who want both technical growth and cultural context.
