Sammie B, Is not your average artist. Her energy is vibrant yet calming, and the way she carries herself feels both confident and approachable. Known for her signature single braid and her iconic tagline, “I literally made the beat,” Sammie is more than just a creative powerhouse—she’s a storyteller, a mentor, and a source of light for anyone looking for hope.
In this conversation, Sammie opens up about her past, her art, and her vision for the ambitious multi-layered project, Planet Sammie.
Q: Sammie, you do it all—rapping, singing, producing, DJing, and even visual art. Where does all this creativity come from?
Honestly, I think it’s just how I process life. I’ve always been someone who feels things deeply, and art gives me a way to express that. Some days it’s music, other days it’s painting or writing poetry. It’s not about being good at everything—it’s about letting whatever’s inside me come out in whatever form feels right.
Q: You’ve been open about your struggles with addiction, heartbreak, and loss. How has that shaped the artist you are today?
Sammie B: Oh, it’s everything. For a long time, I didn’t think I’d make it out of those dark places. But when I started creating, it gave me a way to take control of my story. Instead of being stuck in the pain, I could transform it into something meaningful. Now, my goal is to let people know they’re not alone. If I can make it through, so can they.
Q: Your upcoming project, Planet Sammie, sounds massive. What’s the story behind it?
Sammie B: Planet Sammie is like this universe I’ve been building for years. It’s my world, and I want to invite people into it. The first phase, RARA AVIS, means “rare bird,” and it’s all about celebrating what makes us unique. I’m dropping two songs every month from February to November, and each one is a little piece of my story.
Q: You’re also bringing back “Talk About It Tuesday’s.” What made you want to revive that?
Sammie B: Because I missed it! (laughs) It’s such a cool way to connect with other creatives and have real conversations. I think fans get so used to seeing the polished side of things, but there’s so much that happens behind the scenes. “Talk About It Tuesday’s” is a way to show that human side—and to shine a light on other artists who inspire me.
Q: You’re a recovery coach, too. How does that tie into your art?
Sammie B: It’s all connected. Music saved me during my darkest moments, and now I get to use it to help others. Being a recovery coach reminds me every day that healing is possible, even when it feels impossible. That’s the message I want to share through my art—whether it’s a song, a painting, or just a conversation.
Q: Your new Instagram channel, @SammieBizzle, is part of this new chapter for you. What can fans expect?
Sammie B: It’s all about bringing people closer. I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes looks at my music, merch, and art, but also the day-to-day reality of being an independent artist. It’s not always glamorous, but it’s real. And I think that honesty is what people connect with the most.
Q: What’s your biggest hope for people who listen to your music or follow your work?
Sammie B: I want them to feel seen. I know what it’s like to feel invisible or like you’re too much or not enough. If my music can make someone feel understood or give them the courage to keep going, then I’ve done my job.
Q: What’s next for Sammie B?
Sammie B: So much! (laughs) The songs from RARA AVIS are just the beginning, and I’m working on new art and merch too. This year is about letting people into my world and showing them that no matter what they’re going through, they’re not alone.
